Athletic Cosmetic Company To Launch Skincare and Color Cosmetics

Hyaluronic gel serum, waterproof mascara and a hybrid lip and cheek stain debut in October.

Beauty industry veteran Kate Solomon and former tennis pro Dominique van Boekel have created Athletic Cosmetic Company. Initial offerings, to debut in October, include hyaluronic gel serum ($42), waterproof mascara, ($28) and lip and cheek stain ($42).

After beginning her career at L'Oréal and LVMH, Solomon founded Babo Botanicals and sold it to Mustela in 2018. Now, she's back in the beauty game, teaming with van Boekel, who not only played tennis professionally, but also cofounded Club Med Academies.

In a sport where love means nothing, Solomon considered company names like Love of Color and Love of Sports before settling on Athletic Cosmetic Company. The straightforward name is intended to cut through the cosmetic clutter and hey, it's working for the Athletic Brewing Company, right?

But there's more to the Athletic Cosmetic Company's game than its name. For example, the lip stain won't wear off during timeouts, the mascara is sweat-proof and the hyaluronic acid serum’s gel texture is said to cool skin.

The formulas are aimed at college athletes and the company will launch cooling sensation eyeshadows, tinted SPF 40 serum, a cleanser and a facial exfoliant. In addition to DTC, Solomon hopes to get distribution at wellness retailers and fitness centers.
